HumanAbility welcomes Federal Government’s landmark National Skills Agreement
HumanAbility welcomes the National Cabinet announcement of its landmark National Skills Agreement.
The Agreement will see $30 billion in funding from state, territory, and the Commonwealth Governments, to support the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector which will improve quality of training and implementation of reforms. The funding also includes $325 million to establish national TAFE Centres of Excellence.
This commitment, which will increase skilled vocational education and training workers, is aligned closely with the work of HumanAbility.
HumanAbility CEO Emma King OAM said she was excited to see an increase in support which will aim to address workforce shortages experienced in the care and support sectors nationwide.
“This level of investment will be essential in continuing to drive the work of HumanAbility, addressing the shortcomings in our care and support sectors,” Ms King said.
“We are looking forward to seeing the establishment of TAFE Centres of Excellence nationwide which will operate in collaboration with TAFEs, universities, other jobs and skills councils and industry leaders”.
“Education is the most important step in developing a more skilled and efficient workforce. To see this commitment on top of the promise of 300,000 Fee-Free TAFE places from 2024 will ensure Australia is striving to achieve this goal”.
The investment, which is set to cover the next five years, will be essential in supporting the growth of the aged care and disability sector.
“To see how much the Federal Government values and supports the critical work of jobs and skills councils is extremely gratifying,” Ms King said.
“With a more skilled and qualified workforce, we can provide a far greater quality-of-life for those who need it most”.
“We look forward to what the next five-years will bring to address the challenges facing our most essential sectors.”
