Statement from HumanAbility Board on Voice to Parliament

As representatives of the industries we serve, including First Nations health and human services, we are committed to driving workforce development and improving service delivery for First Nations communities. We understand that building respectful and trusted relationships with First Nations Peoples is crucial for the success of these efforts.

As the HumanAbility Board of Directors, we recognise the importance of supporting the aspirations of First Nations Peoples to have a direct voice in shaping their future, including determination of the workforce development strategies and policies that impact their communities. We believe that their valuable insights and perspectives are essential for designing effective programs and initiatives.

In line with our commitment to a better future for all Australians, we fully support the principle of empowering First Nations communities through enhanced workforce development opportunities. We acknowledge the need for meaningful collaboration and engagement to co-create innovative solutions that address the unique challenges and opportunities in these communities.

We support the creation of a Voice to Parliament and Government embedded by constitutional recognition of our First Nations Peoples and to the implementation of the remaining measures enunciated in the Uluru Statement from the Heart. We are committed to working hand-in-hand with First Nations Australians to ensure their aspirations are realised.

We are committed to fostering inclusive practices, cultural understanding, and equitable opportunities throughout the workforce development journey.

Together, we will seek to build a future where First Nations communities have access to high-quality, culturally safe services and a skilled workforce that is representative, responsive, and respectful of their unique needs and aspirations.
