Two early childhood education and care (ECEC) qualifications have had minor updates published to reflect the federal government’s requirement for workers and volunteers to undergo national childhood safety training.
The qualifications are:
- CHC30125 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care
- CHC50125 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care
A Companion Volume Implementation Guide has also been published to support these changes.
From 27 February 2026, people working or volunteering in ECEC services must undergo national childhood safety training. The training is mandatory for all those working or volunteering in an ECEC service regulated under the:
- National Quality Framework
- Child Care Subsidy Minister’s Rules 2027.
The changes were made to reflect a stronger commitment to children’s safety, rights and best interests.
National childhood safety training is only available through the Australian Government’s online learning platform for the ECEC sector, Geccko. Foundation training must be completed by all workers and volunteers working with children, including students completing placement and studying an approved education and care qualification.
Mandatory advanced training will soon be available for:
- a person with management or control of a service
- a nominated supervisor of a service
- a person in day-to-day charge of a service
- staff members of the service who work directly with children.
