Draft Training Products

Draft training products are available for review and feedback. We are particularly seeking feedback from the mental health peer support workforce, people with lived and living experience, employers, registered training organisations, educators, peak and industry bodies, unions, subject matter experts and other interested organisations.

Your feedback will help ensure the products reflect current mental health peer support practices, recognise the expertise of the peer workforce, and support their continued development.

Before providing feedback, please read the Summary of Changes below, which outlines key changes proposed and can help you identify the areas most relevant to your experience or expertise.

Consultation Portal

The draft training products are available through HumanAbility’s consultation portal throughout the consultation period. The portal provides the opportunity to review the draft training products in your own time and provide feedback on the areas most relevant to your experience or expertise. You do not need to attend an online consultation forum to contribute.

To access the portal, you must be registered for project updates. When consultation opens, registered subscribers will receive an email with a link to review the draft training products and provide feedback. Find out more about the consultation portal.

When the consultation period has closed, we will publish a consultation log containing all feedback and how it was considered.

Mandatory Workplace Hours Survey

We are also seeking feedback on mandatory workplace hours which are required as part of the qualification. The survey asks about your views and experiences you’re your responses will help us consider the workplace hours requirement.

Consultation Forums

We are hosting a series of 90-minute online consultation sessions to explore different aspects of the draft training products. The forums will be co-facilitated and provide a respectful and inclusive space for participants to ask questions and hear different perspectives.

Discussion will consider:

• the scope and identity of the qualification
• the peer work core and proposed new units
• workplace requirements
• the elective structure and specialisations
• other areas of the draft training products identified by participants.

These forums are an additional opportunity to engage with the project.

Development

Past Consultation

Units of competency with few or no enrolments

Until the end of July 2026, we sought insights in relation to selected units of competency in the CHC43515 Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work and whether any of the units of competency with few or no enrolments should be retained with a clear rationale related to occupational relevance, workforce need or distinct outcomes not otherwise addressed.

Thank you for your patience and continued commitment to the Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drugs Qualification Review project. In response to advice and feedback from the lived experience sector during this project, we have developed a dedicated Consultation Strategy and approach to the review of CHC43515 Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work.

The review of the qualification will follow the Training Package Organising Framework (TPOF) to ensure a structured, transparent and compliant process. We will engage with mental health peer work employees, employers, mental health commissions, consumer and carer peaks, registered training organisations, unions, federal/state representatives, and current students in our consultations, in line with requirements under the TPOF.

Project Scope

In scope are:

• a review of:
  
  • 1 qualification: CHC43515 Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work
  • 6 units of competency
  • 2 skill sets

• engagement with industry stakeholders and subject matter experts to validate updated qualifications and competency units. 

Out of scope are:

• development of new qualifications not previously included in the suite of mental health peer work qualifications
• changes to qualifications and units governed by other training packages or sectors outside of mental health peer work.
