Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting
Overview
This review of the HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting will ensure the unit of competency continues to meet industry needs and support the delivery of high-quality first aid training for educators and support staff working in school aged education and care settings.
As part of the School Aged Education and Care Qualification Review, we will consider how the unit of competency aligns with contemporary first aid practices, including the latest guidance from the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other relevant national peak bodies. We will ensure the unit continues to support workers who provide first aid to infants, children and adults in education and care environments. We will also consider how the unit supports the skills and knowledge required by educators and support staff working in outside school hours care, vacation care and other school aged education and care settings.
Consultation with industry, employers, registered training organisations, regulators and other stakeholders will help identify opportunities to improve the clarity, relevance and usability of the unit. Stakeholder feedback will play a critical role in ensuring the updated unit reflects current industry expectations, supports safe and effective first aid responses in education and care settings, and aligns with the outcomes of the School Aged Education and Care qualification review.
Project governance and consultation strategy
A Technical Committee of industry experts will be established to provide specialised advice for this project. Members are carefully selected based on their relevant expertise and experience in areas critical to the project.
The Technical Committee will work with HumanAbility in this project to:
- identify relevant stakeholders to consult with about the project
- provide insights on proposed communication and consultation strategies
- provide technical knowledge on the skills and knowledge required to meet graduate outcomes and workforce needs.
Our draft Project Consultation Strategy will be finalised once the Technical Committee has been formed and had an opportunity to review. Once finalised it will be made available to download.
Information Session
Join our upcoming information session on the review of HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting . The session will provide an overview of the review process, the factors influencing the proposed updates, implementation considerations, available support resources, and opportunities to ask questions. This session is designed for registered training organisations, employers, industry stakeholders, trainers and assessors, and other interested parties involved in the delivery and assessment of first aid training in education and care settings.
